Welcome to Ellicottville
Welcome to Ellicottville.
Welcome to Ellicottville. A charming and authentic ski town in the heart of the Enchanted Mountains. Ellicottville has been called the Aspen of the East. This may seem far fetched, however the claim is made not because of the size of the mountains. Instead, it is because Ellicottville today is reminiscent of Aspen as it used to be.
Lowell Thomas dubbed Ellicottville the “Aspen of the East”. The New York Times more recently referred to it as “The Ski Town that Aspen Used To Be Like.” Either way, Ellicottville is a true ski town with excellent restaurants, craft breweries and bars where you can dance the night away! Of course, to be a ski town, you must have great skiing and Ellicottville has that in abundance. While it might not match Aspen’s vertical, Ellicottville does boast two fabulous hills in Holimont and Holiday Valley. Ellicottville real estate is also much more affordable than its western counterpart. Holimont is North America’s biggest private ski club and Holiday Valley is a public ski hill that consistently ranks among the top 5 Best in the East by Ski Magazine. You can thank Lake Erie and its lake effect for the very respectable 180 inches that is Ellicottville’s Average Snowfall.
Ellicottville was born as a ski town. However, it is now a four seasons destination. The Double Black Diamond is probably the best known golf course in Ellicottville, but the area boasts a number of fine courses. Elkdale, Springville and Ischua Valley, for example. The mountain coaster at Holiday Valley offers thrills (and hopefully no spills!). National Geographic named Ellicottville one of America’s top adventure towns. The International Mountain Biking Association calls Ellicottville “epic”. Additionally, the surrounding area offers fabulous fishing, boating and even white water rafting.
Ellicottville also boasts a year round schedule of festivals, headlined by the Fall Festival. The Fall Festival corresponds with Canadian Thanksgiving and is a wonderful combination of live music, good food and, of course, the stunning autumnal colours.
A Skier's Paradise
In winter, Ellicottville is full of skiers.
Holiday Valley Ski Resort is south of the village. It has over 290 acres of skiable terrain and extensive night skiing. It was recently voted the #2 ski resort in the East by Ski Magazine and, moreover, often finishes top for apres-ski!
HoliMont is North America’s largest private ski club. Snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and tubing means there is something for everyone.
Furthermore, for non-skiers and those who just want to do nothing, Ellicottville’s spas, fabulous restaurants and great brew pubs are well renowned. So, what are you waiting for?
Not Just a Winter Destation
Winter is fantastic, however summer is pretty great as well! There are 9 golf courses within 20 miles of Ellicottville. In addition, there are nearby lakes and rivers. There is also white water rafting less than an hour away. Indeed, National Geographic Magazine lists Ellicottville as one of its Best Adventure Towns. Furthermore, the International Mountain Biking Association describes Ellicottville as “Epic”.
