Opening Day at Holiday Valley in 2020 will be December 10th

Holiday Valley Opening Day 2020-2021

Holiday Valley Opening Day

Holiday Valley opening day in 2020 will be December 10th 2020.  That’s a bit later than opening day in 2019 which was November 29th 2019.  There is no doubt that it will be worth the wait, however!  In the end, 2019 was actually a very mild winter so let’s hope for lots of cold, snowy days this year.  That being said, as we wrote in another blog, despite the milder weather, Ellicottville was actually blessed with a lot of snow.

Thank a Snow Maker

This is true every day of the ski season, but it’s especially true in the early days of the season.  And it’s even more true when Mother Nature isn’t co-operating.  This year, there have not been any massive snowfalls, but the resort will still open with 4 lifts and a whole bunch of runs.  The snow makers produced an incredible 150 acre feet of snow.  That is a crazy number!

Holiday Valley Opening Day in History

How does this opening day compare to others in the past?  Well, here’s a list of previous opening days and also closing dates.

18/19 11/23/2018 04/07/2019

14/15 11/28/2014 04/12/2015
15/16 12/20/2015 03/27/2016

As you can see, this year will be one of the later starts.  Let’s just hope that the season finishes after Easter.  Preferably with no outside interference from Covid!

Extra Precautions for 2020-2021

It is fair to say that 2020 has been an unusual year.  In fact, that might be the understatement of the year.  The ski season will be a relief, but obviously it will be a bit different this year.  In many ways, skiing is the perfect Covid sport.  You are outdoors and most people are wearing masks and goggles!  There will still be some changes though.  Indoor dining will be restricted to 30 minutes at a time to minimize everyone’s exposure.  Additionally, guests are encouraged to get ready in their cars.  It’s a small price to pay, though, for getting out on the hill.

2020 has actually been a great year for Ellicottville Real Estate.  Covid has kept people closer to home.  While this is bad news for Canadians, more than ever, people from Western New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania have realized what they have on their doorstep.  For the best ski chalets in Ellicottville, make sure you check out 42 Degrees North.
